A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Sarangpur to pay last respect to Swaminarayan saint Pramukh Swami Maharaj, it was Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's turn on Tuesday to pay tribute to him.
Pramukh Swami passed away on Saturday. Since then politicians, celebrities and thousands of his followers had been making a beeline to Sarangpur where the mortal remains of the head of Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushotam Sawminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) was kept for darshan. His body will be cremated on Wednesday. The followers of BAPS believe that Pramukh Swami was the fifth spiritual successor of lord Swaminarayan.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and most of the members of his Council of Ministers have already visited the temple complex in Botad district, around 100 km from Ahmedabad. BJP's national president Amit Shah and senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel too will be visiting Sarangpur on Wednesday.
Terming Swamiji as divine soul, the Delhi Chief Minister said that the saint had dedicated his whole life for humanity and promotion of Hindu culture across the globe.
Pramukh Swami's selfless dedication and service to human beings through temples and hospitals across the world would keep him immortal, Kejriwal said, adding that his departure shocked large number of people across the world.
Meanwhile, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday tweeted, "HH Pramukh Swami Maharaj was a spiritual leader, humanitarian and his aura remains".
