KCR says priority will be to support Rahul-led UPA

With six days to go for the counting of votes, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrashekar Rao reiterated his take of not supporting the BJP if it comes to power at the Centre.

After a detailed deliberation at the party’s extended executive committee meeting in Hyderabad on Friday, which was also attended by all the Assembly and lok Sabha candidates, KCR praised Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi for their help in formation of Telangana State.

“Our first priority will be to support the UPA Government led by Rahul Gandhi. I am confident that Rahul Gandhi will become the Prime Minister. If it does not happen we will think about an alternative Third Front Government. But there is no question of supporting the NDA,” KCR told a Press conference.

He also expressed confidence that the TRS will be forming the Government in Telangana on May 17. “TRS is winning at least 90 Assembly seats. The Congress will not get 23 to 30 seats,” he said on the basis of the analysis of the polling trends in the region.

KCR said that YSRCP of Jaganmohan Reddy will come to power in Seemandhra with at least 100 Assembly seats. “The story of Chandrababu Naidu is over. The TDP is going to be wiped out in both the regions,” he said.

“According to our survey there is no question of Jaganmohan Reddy getting less than 100 seats. He will be the Chief Minister,” he said. The TRS president, who was tipped to become the first Chief Minister of Telangana, said that he is willing to work closely with the Seemandhra Government to work in the interest of Telugu people. “There are many issues and problems on which the two Governments will have to discuss and find a solution,” he said.

KCR brushed aside the reports in a section of media that the TRS is planning to keep the newly elected MlAs in confinements in camp as he fears poaching by other parties.  “We don’t believe in camps or petty politics,” he said.

The meeting discussed the arrangements for the counting of votes for Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad elections on Monday and for general elections on Friday next.

On the reports that Telangana State Congress president P lakshmaiah is in touch with the TRS leaders, especially those belonging to the Reddy community, KCR said, “he is indulging in cheap politics”.

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and the BJP’s senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu have already exuded confidence that their alliance will sweep the elections in Seemandhra.

“Ten thousand per cent we are going to win,” said Chandrababu before leaving for Mussoorie with the family.
