Facing flak from the main Opposition, the Congress and several Muslim organisations over the delay in fulfilling the promised 12 per cent reservations to the minority community, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has reiterated his commitment and assured Muslims that the promise will be fulfilled soon.
Speaking at a grand Iftar party hosted by the Sate Government at the sprawling Nizam College Ground in the city last evening, the CM said that the Government has already constituted a committee to study the socio economic conditions of Muslims in the State and a report was expected in next few days.”soon after that we will convene a special session of the State Assembly and pass a resolution. We will send the resolution to the Center to ensure the reservations for the Muslim community”, he said.
KCR, as the Chief Minister was popularly known , exuded confidence that his Government will be successful in fulfilling its biggest election promise of 12 per cent reservations.
The assurance came in the presence of MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi and the Union Minister of State and BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya, who were among the prominent guests at the Iftar party.
The assurance has come at a time when the existing state policy of 4 per cent reservations to the backward Muslims in education and Government jobs was pending before the Supreme Court and the TRS Government was facing criticism for not taking the case seriously.
Speaking in chaste Urdu, the Chief Minister listed out various measures his Government had taken for improving the educational status of Muslims including setting up 20 residential schools at a cost of Rs 3900 crore. The schools will start functioning from this holy month of Ramazan, he said.
