The top brass of Bengal’s premier Jadavpur University — including the Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Registrar — continued to remain confined to their offices for the past 54 hours as the students blockading them to press for lifting the punishment on two banned engineering students for ragging refused to budge from their stand.

Refusing to climb down from their decision, VC Souvik Bhattacharya who had to spend the last night on his office floor with Pro-Vice Chancellor S Dutta by his side on Friday iterated “there is no question of agreeing to their demands.”

The Pro-VC said he was confident of convincing the students and “hope they will understand our point.”

Two fourth year students were earlier suspended for one year and six months respectively for ragging a second year student.

“We are simply following the UGC guidelines and the Supreme Court verdict,” a senior university officer said.
