SRINAGAR: J&K Police have arrested 10 people in Shopian after busting a terror-financing module allegedly linked to LeT and TRF. The investigation traced suspicious online transactions and multiple financial links.
Police said the case began with an examination of suspicious online transactions across several payment platforms. Investigators traced money trails “across multiple layers”, leading them to a wider network allegedly involved in financing militancy. The network reportedly included people in contact with militants and their associates lodged in different jails.
According to the police handout, an FIR (No. 231/2026) has been registered at Shopian police station under relevant sections of the law.
Those arrested have been identified as Owais Shafi Naikoo, Tajamul Ahmad Shah, Moiz Iqbal, Imdad Yousuf Ganie, Saqib Zahoor Wani, Aamir Ahmad Ganie, Firdous Thokar, Liyaqat Nazir Lone, Mohd Hanief and Kaju. Eight of them are from Shopian and Pulwama districts, while the remaining two are from Kathua in the Jammu division.
Police alleged that the group was collecting funds from the public and routing them through established financial channels to support LeT and TRF activities. A portion of the money was allegedly used for logistical support, including the purchase of smartphones.
“Further investigation is underway to ascertain the wider network, establish additional financial linkages and identify other individuals involved in the module,” police said, adding that more arrests were expected.
The arrests are part of an ongoing drive by J&K Police and other security agencies against terror-support and financing networks in the Union Territory.
