Jisha rape-murder: No bail for accused

PNS

The Principal Sessions Court in Ernakulam, Kerala on Tuesday rejected the bail application of Assamese youth Ameerul Islam (23), lone accused in the case pertaining to the brutal rape-murder of 29-year-old Jisha, a Dalit law student, in Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district on April 28 even as he claimed that the crime was not committed by him but by his friend Anarul Islam, another youth hailing from Assam.

The court rejected the bail plea of Ameerul, who was a migrant worker in Perumbavoor, by accepting the Prosecution argument that the accused might flee the State and influence witnesses if released. The State police had submitted the chargesheet in the case in the Ernakulam court on Saturday, naming Ameerul as the only accused.

Though the counsel for the accused argued that Ameerul deserved bail as he had already spent over three months in prison, the court did not accept it.
