A day after he was arrested for allegedly abetting Jiah Khan’s suicide, Suraj Pancholi was remanded in police custody by a city court till June 13. Magistrate Seema Jadhav remanded Jiah’s boyfriend Suraj in custody for the next three days, after the Prosecution told the court that police wanted to question the arrested accused on the serious allegations made against him in a purported suicide note left by the deceased actress.
Suraj, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was on Monday night arrested and booked for allegedly abetting Jiah’s suicide.Jiah’s family members found the purported suicide note left by her three days after she committed suicide at her Juhu residence on June 3.
In the unsigned suicide note that her family members have handed over to the Juhu police, Jiah has made allegations of threat, assault and rape against Suraj.
Seeking the remand of Suraj, Public Prosecutor AK Pacharane informed the court that the police had recovered the CCTV footage of the hotel and the house where Jiah and her boyfriend went on the day she committed suicide.
The Prosecutor also told the court that the custodial interrogation of Suraj was a must, considering that he faced serious allegations of threat, assault and rape against the latter by Jiah in her suicide note.
Suraj’s lawyer Zameer Khan argued that the suicide note found Jiah’s family members could in no way be the basis for the police to seek his client’s custody, considering that the note did not carry the name of his client (Suraj) nor did it carry the signature of the deceased actress.
The defence lawyer also argued that there was no need for the police to seek the custody of Suraj, since the statements of 23 witnesses had already been recorded and mobile and other gadgets of the accused had been impounded by police.
Twenty one-year-old Suraj, who was the last person whom Jiah had spoken to on the night of June 3 before she committed suicide, had been questioned extensively last week by the Juhu police probing the circumstances leading to the actress’ suicide and was later let off.
Suraj was grilled for three hours on Monday on issues relating to the purported suicide note left by Jiah, before being placed under formal arrest.
The relations between Jiah and Suraj, who had been going steady for more than a year, had gone sour in the recent weeks, after she found that even while being in a relationship with her, he was allegedly womanising - a discovery that she did not come to terms with leading to her taking the extreme step.
The purported suicide note mentions that Jiah felt deeply hurt at having to her baby with Suraj. The note blames Suray at having destroyed her life.
Among other things, the note apparently meant for Suraj, states: I have no reason to breathe anymore. All I wanted was love. I did everything for you. I was working for us. My future is destroyed. My happiness snatched away from me. You never appreciated my love. Kicked me in my face. I have no confidence or self esteem left. Whatever talent whatever ambition, you took it all away. You destroyed my life.
