Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday said that the jehadi forces have been trying to raise a women’s wing in Assam.

The Chief Minister said this while interacting to the newsmen and added that the jehadi forces have their concentration mainly in Barpeta and Nalbari districts of Assam.“We have reports that many youths from these two districts have already gone abroad for training in jehadi activities,” the Chief Minister said.

The statement of Gogoi assumes significance after the recent arrest of seven people from Assam’s Barpeta district for their connection with the Burdwan blast and also after the National Investigating Agency (NIA), probing the Burdwan blast case, making it clear that one of the 12 Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) involved in the blast, hails from Assam’s Barpeta district. The NIA, which had already launched an operation to nab the 12 accused of the Burdwan blast and announced cash awards on them, on Tuesday searched the bank accounts of Shahnur Alom and his wife Sujina Begum in the district.

An NIA team had arrived in Assam’s Barpeta district on Sunday and is carrying out search operations at Chatala village in Barpeta district. They searched the house of Shahnur Alom, one of the main operative of the Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Assam and his brother Jakaria, who had been arrested earlier by a team of the special operation unit of the Assam police.

The NIA had already announced a cash award of Rs5 lakh on Shahnur, who has been absconding with his wife, Sujina Begum, since Eid-ul-Zuha. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that the Assam Government does not have any evidence regarding the nexus between the political parties and the Islamic terror outfits.
