JD(U) MPs on Thursday protested in the Parliament demanding an apology from Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde for criticising Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his failure in tackling Maoists. Terming Shinde's letter as "insulting", JD(U) MPs stormed the Well of the lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. However, Shinde defended his position.
In the Rajya Sabha, JD(U) members, led by Sabir Ali, trooped into the Well, while senior leader Shivanand Tiwari joined the protest from his seat. Some JD(U) members were also heard saying that the Home Minister should be sacked.
later in the evening, Shinde defended his writing a letter to the Bihar Chief Minister.
"The Centre is concerned over the Bihar situation. It is the Bihar police which is facing the Naxals and its men have died. So, I have written the letter flagging the issues," he told reporters here, a day after his letter became public.
In his letter to Nitish, Shinde had said situation in the state has become alarming and there is complete breakdown in coordination between the state police and central forces.
He also advised Nitish to examine the successful counter-insurgency models of other states and adopt such structures in Bihar too.
