Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has left for Kodanadu Estates in the Nilgiris on Wednesday morning from where she would discharge her official duties for the next few weeks.
This is the first time Jayalalithaa is leaving the State Capital since she was sworn in as Chief Minister in May this year after the Karnataka High Court acquitted her of all charges in the disproportionate asset case and quashed the special court verdict.
According to sources in the AIADMK, Jayalalithaa's sojourn to Kodanadu is more about preparing strategies for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election. "It was during her stay in Kodanadu she had taken some of the major decisions like Amma Restaurants and subsidised fruits and vegetable shops. We understand that she is working on the manifesto for the 2016 Assembly election," said a senior AIADMK leader.
The last two days saw Jayalalithaa interacting with the district secretaries of the party and her Council of Ministers. Both the meetings were held at Veda Nilayam, Jayalalithaa's residence at Poes Garden in Chennai. The meeting with the Ministers was to take stock of the governance and the Government's preparations for the festival season in the State which began on Monday with the Navarathri festival.
