J&K reverses recruitment policy

PNS

The Jammu & Kashmir Cabinet reversed the recruitment policy and abandoned fixed salary mode for new employees after receiving flak from unemployed educated youth. The decision is a part of Omar Abdullah-led Government’s attempt to address public grievances which led to the debacle of coalition candidates in the embattled State.

The Cabinet also appointed K Rajendra, 1984-batch IPS officer of J&K cadre as the new Director General of Police relieving Ashok Prasad, who has been repatriated to the Centre. Prasad would take over as Additional Director General of Intelligence Bureau (IB).The Cabinet met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for the first time after the Model Code of Conduct was implemented in March.

An official spokesman said that the Cabinet revoked Government Order No. 257-F of 2011, prescribing the fixed salary mode for the recruitment of Class-III, Class-IV and other Non-Gazetted staff in the Government and other terms and conditions of employment. The Finance Department was asked to work out proposals, relating to the revocation of the fixed salary mode and the restoration of the pre-existing salary mode for these categories and the other terms and conditions of employment.

The fixed salary mode employment had drawn flak due to lack of benefits extended to regular Government employees. Observers had pointed out that this decision was one of the reasons for disenchantment towards Abdullah Government.
