Opposing the irrigation projects of Telangana State proved costly for YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy as his party’s lone MP from the State and Telangana State unit president resigned from the party and joined the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS).

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, who represents Khammam in lok Sabha formally joined the TRS on Monday along with another party MlA P Venkateshwarulu and announced that he was taking the step as a protest against Jaganmohan Reddy’s stand on Telangana irrigation project.

“Jagan’s move of going on hunger strike against Telangana projects was not correct”, he told the media. Reddy was all praise for the efforts of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for bringing more and more areas of Telangana under irrigation. He stressed that Telangana was not utilising a single TMC FT of water more than its due share.

Strongly criticising Jaganmohan Reddy’s pro Andhra stand, Srinivas Reddy said that he had thrown the Telangana unit of his party to the wind and was concerned only with the interest of Andhra people.

Senior TRS leader and Minister K Taraka Rama Rao expressing his happiness over the development said that the YSRCP leaders were joining because of the party’s leadership’s Opposition to the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy irrigation project. “like the YSRCP, the Telugu Desam party will also be wiped out from the State”, he said.
