Immunity booster enriched phyto-nutrient compounds found in medicinal plants are drawing the attention of the scientists at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly too. They have developed first-of-its-kind herbal based cattle feed that promises to improve milk yield, procreation and immunity in the milch animals like buffalo and cow.
At an event held here recently the manufacturing technology of the cattle feed was transferred to AIMIL Pharmaceuticals, in the presence of Union Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala, at an event held here to mark the 95th ICAR Foundation and Technology day. Dr Ikshit Sharma, Director of the AIMIL Pharmaceuticals, informed that the feed to be prepared in the granular form which can be easily mixed with fodder for the animals will be launched in the market soon.
“The aim is to help bolster the income of animal-rearing farmers as they will get lucrative returns on high yield and better quality milk. Being an immunity booster, it will also save on the expenditure on animal diseases,” he asserted.
Sharma said many of AIMIL Pharma’s products have been developed by government research institutes.
For instance, Diabetes drug BGR-34 developed by the CSIR and Leukoskin, a drug developed by DRDO for vitiligo to name a few. This IVRI developed cattle feed will be marketed by AIMIL’s animal healthcare division which is already offering a string of animal products for the health of poultry, pets and animals in the market. The IVRI scientists said that though an array of cattle feeds is available in the market, this nutritious product by the Government research institute in Bareilly is based on the phyto-nutrients formulations derived from the time-tested medicinal plants that fulfills the need of nutritious diet for the animals.
It also improves their reproductive health as it contains requisite minerals and proteins so that they have healthier offsprings. Extensive trials have been conducted on this feed on milch animals at many sites.
Results have been encouraging. It has been found that the feed not only prevents many infectious diseases but also takes care of stress occurring in animals during summer and rainy seasons. The IVRI scientists said that this diet will be an economically viable option too for the farmers.
