In what could be a major embarrassment to the Government of Tamil Nadu, policewomen in the State have written to Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and the Director-General of Police (DGP) pleading with them not to post policewomen in riot-prone areas. This is a fallout of incidents which occurred on June 27, 2015 in Ambur in Vellore district where women police personnel on duty were molested by gangs of Islamic outfits.
This startling revelation has been made by Rama Gopalan, the octogenarian leader of the Hindu Front, who called on Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday to submit a memorandum detailing the attacks on Hindus by various Islamic outfits in Tamil Nadu.
“The letters to the Chief Minister and DGP were written by the victims themselves. All these women police personnel were molested in full public glare. What epitomizes the collapse of the will of the State Administration to fight these anti-national forces is the complete abdication by the State Police in Ambur to even save their lady colleagues from such ignominy. It is quite evident that a police force that could not protect itself cannot be trusted with ensuring law and order in the State,” said Rama Gopalan, a leader in Tamil Nadu.
As a fallout of the letter written to the Chief Minister by the policewomen, Jainulabdeen, leader of Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamaat, a virulent Islamic outfit, threatened the police with dire consequences.
“It was his common refrain that the Muslim youth in the State numbered in excess of 50 lakh while the police force is at best a mere 20,000. In this connection, September 28, 2015 was declared as the direct action day titled the ‘War of Badr.’ It may also be noted that this was widely publicised by putting up posters and banners. Despite such wide publicity to a proposed seditious activity, the administration, notably police were eloquent with their silence,” says the memorandum submitted by Rama Gopalan.
