Ishrat Jahan case: CBI may file supplementary chargesheet

PNS

The CBI is likely to file a supplementary chargesheet in the alleged fake encounter of lashkar operative Ishrat Jahan soon and name some key politicians of the State for alleged criminal conspiracy in the case.

CBI sources said key State BJP leaders Amit Shah, Pradipsinh Jadeja, Bhupendra Chudasama and Praful Patel besides IAS officer GC Murmu are likely to figure in the chargesheet.

All these persons have been grilled by the agency in the last few weeks. The, agency, sources said, has found their role in the broader conspiracy in the alleged fake encounter or the alleged efforts to derail investigation into the case, the sources said.

Former Special Director Rajinder Kumar may not figure in the chargesheet as an accused but his name will again be mentioned in

the final report.

The sources said these suspects could have provided assistance or were supporting factors in the conduct of the alleged fake encounter as some of them had beforehand knowledge of

the conspiracy.

CBI plans to file the supplementary chargesheet in the case before agency Special Director Salim Ali superannuates later this month. Ali has been supervising the probe and is likely to be appointed Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia after retirement.

“The accusations against the suspects are being finalised and the agency has sought legal opinion for firming up the chargesheet so that a watertight final report is made out,” a source said.

The CBI Director Ranjit Sinha had earlier indicated the chargesheet in the case is being finalized and is likely to be filed before the designated court by mid-November.

In the first charge sheet, the agency had named eight police and Intelligence officials as accused in the case and had also mentioned Kumar’s name in the report. However, Kumar was not made an accused

in the case.
