PNS

The Gujarat High Court reserved order on DGP PP Pandey’s petition seeking to quash an FIR filed against him in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case on July 1.

On Wednesday, a single bench judge had adjourned the hearing after the CBI opposed it. The CBI has described the top Gujarat police officer as the “mastermind” of the 2004 episode. The investigation agency has also claimed to have sufficient evidence against him.

The Additional Director General of Gujarat Police has been made accused in the case. After issuance of warrant for his arrest, he moved to the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR filed against him by CBI in the 2004 encounter case.

In fact, he had moved Supreme Court seeking direction to quash the FIR against him. However, the apex court, on June 11 rejected his plea and asked him to seek relief from Gujarat High Court.

Earlier, a Special CBI Court in Ahmedabad had declared the IPS officer an absconder in the encounter case and three others under Section 82 of the CrPC.
