SC holds Advocate guilty of contempt
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday held advocate Mathews J Nedumpara guilty of contempt for taking a senior lawyer’s name to allege that sons and daughters of judges were given priority in awarding ‘senior advocate’ designation, saying that he has attempted to browbeat the courts and his conduct deserves severe punishment.
Apex court agrees to hear DMK’s plea
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Tuesday agreed to hear DMK’s plea seeking a direction to the Election Commission to issue a notification for by-elections to three vacant assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khana said it will hear the petition on March 15.
SC accepts plea against centre, EC
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday listed for hearing on March 14 a plea seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against the Centre and the Election Commission (EC) for alleged violation of the apex court’s September 25, 2018 judgment directing all candidates to declare their criminal antecedents to the poll panel before contesting elections.
AK mohanty takes over as barc chief
Noted scientist AK Mohanty on Monday took over as the Director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) from KN Vyas, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary to Department of Atomic Energy. Dr Mohanty was director, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata.
