India has decided to replace the four communication systems meant for a Palestine university with new ones that can go through Israeli customs. These communication equipments, which were to be gifted by President Pranab Mukherjee to Al-Quds University in Ramallah and Jawaharlal Nehru Secondary School for Boys at Abu Dees, are held up at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport due to security reasons. Israel has flagged “frequency” issues with these equipments.
“Four communication devices which have certain frequencies which were not allowed in Israel under their regulations have not been permitted. We will substitute them with other communication devices which have different (frequencies) and are acceptable,” Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry Vikas Swarup said.
Earlier, 30 computers for the India-Palestine Centre for Excellence in ICT and Innovation at Al-Quds Univesity and Jawaharlal Nehru school were stuck at Israel’s Ashdod port.
These computers were released on Monday morning after diplomatic channels from both sides were activated to get the consignment cleared.
“These projects are a gift from the Government and people of India to Palestine as part of India’s capacity-building initiatives in Palestine,” said Secretary (East) in Ramallah on Tuesday.
These were presented to the institutes by Mukherjee on Tuesday.
