India soon to have Covid-19 vaccine for the 12-18 years age group with the Government likely to give Zydus Cadila’s Covid shot ZyCoV-D emergency use authorisation (EUA) this week.

If approved, ZyCoV-D would be the first vaccine in the country for the children above 12 years to 18 years.

Zydus Cadila had applied for the EUA status for its Covid vaccine ZyCoV-D on July 1. The company has conducted the largest clinical trial for its Covid-19 vaccine in India, including on the adolescent population in the 12-18 years age group.

If approved, ZyCoV-D would be the first vaccine in India for the 12-18 years age group. ZyCoV-D is a three-dose, intradermal vaccine, which is applied using a needle-free system, Tropis, which can also lead to a significant reduction in any kind of side effects.

Currently, the Indian government has authorised five vaccines for Covid-19 which include, Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik V, Moderna’s vaccine, and J&J’s single-dose vaccine.
