India on Thursday said it is closely following the progress in the investigations being conducted by Pakistan on the perpetrators involved in Pathankot terror attack.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Vikas Swarup said the Indian Government wants “robust, credible and comprehensive action on the attack” from the Pak side. India is awaiting details of the Pak Special Investigation Team that would be coming to India, he said, adding the terms and reference are yet to be decided.
“In principle, we have welcomed the decision of Pakistan Government to consider sending a SIT team. Rest is matter of details. What they can seeIJ Where they can goIJ What will be terms of referenceIJ Those need to be worked out by agencies on both sides provided the Pakistan Government firms up its decision to send the team,” Swarup said. According to him, the Government has not got any information after the first official statement by the Pakistan Government on a possible visit by an SIT. “We are awaiting a firm proposal on this,” Swarup added.
Swarup said the National Security Advisers and the Foreign Secretaries of the two countries are constantly in touch with each other on this issue. The dates for a meeting between Indian FS S Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary will be decided at a “mutually convenient date”. It is learnt that both sides are working out on fresh dates but nothing has been finalised so far.
Swarup also dismissed the allegations that India was behind the attack on Bacha Khan University at Charsadda in Pakistan on Wednesday. “The issue is also not been raised officially with us by Pakistan,” he said. Pakistan on Thursday said the attacks were handiwork of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which operated from Afghanistan. The Pak authorities said they have given evidence and leads to the Afghan Government for action.
