As the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave approval for introduction of a Bill in Parliament to amend the National Council for Teachers Education Act 1993 to grant retrospective recognition to the universities which are conducting teacher education courses without NCTE permission, Gandhinagar based Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE) is all set to get recognition and students passed from the institute eligible for employment.

Vice-Chancellor of IITE which is also known as Teachers University, Dr Sashiranjan Yadav said that the new act — the National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Act, 2017 — would make student studying of IITE and other such institutes across the nation including those who already graduated from these institutes, eligible for employment as a teacher.

According to him, the amendment was seeking to grant retrospective recognition to the Central/State/Union Territory funded institutions and universities conducting Teacher Courses without NCTE recognition till the academic year 2017-18.

“The retrospective recognition is being given a onetime measure so as to ensure that the future of the students graduated/enrolled in these institutions are not jeopardised,” said Yadav.

IITE, Gandhinagar is the brain child of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The institute was established in 2010 by an act of Gujarat Government. The institute started functioning in 2011. The institute is aiming to nurture teachers of tomorrow with the transformative knowledge of Indian tradition and usher in a new era of educating teacher, focusing upon the integral development of teachers.

IITE has set its mission to provide integrated courses in teacher education, marked and define by value-education, global outlook and interdisciplinary.

“As Chief Minister of Gujarat Modiji wanted to establish an institute which would produce world class teachers and export them.

At present, world is facing shortage of teachers, he wanted India to lead the change at the fore front,” said Yadav, adding that already four students who have passed out from IITE are set to employ in Kuwait.
