I will give new direction to India: Telangana CM

Omer Farooq

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who has created a stir by declaring his ambition to lead the efforts to build a third alternative at the national level has said that ever since his statement on Saturday has evinced keen interest from the leaders of several political parties across the country.

Addressing a meeting of party workers and leaders from all over Telangana at his official residence on Sunday KCR said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Soren and several MPs from Maharashtra were among the people who called him and welcomed his statement. “Mamata said we are ready to go as you suggest”.

“This response shows the prevalent disappointment with the failure of Congress and the BJP”, he said.

KCR expressed disappointment that even 70 years after independence India could not achieve much progress and people had no idea where it was going. “If people who brought me up to this position bless me I will show a new direction to the country”, he said continuing his Saturday’s statement that he will lead the efforts at the national level to bring regional parties to build an alternative to Congress and the BJP.

It was second consecutive day when the Telangana Rashtra Samiti president expressed his desire to play an active role in national politics. On Saturday he told a press conference that there was a need for a qualitative change in the national politics and he was ready to lead any efforts in this direction.

He was categorical in staking claim to the leadership of any role to build a third front, he said, “if need be I will take the leadership at the national level. Why notIJ”

“I am 64. I will be useful for the country for the next three to four years if health permits me”, he said.

In Sunday’s address he continued to target both the Congress and the BJP, charging the successive Congress and the BJP governments with serious failure. KCR asked, “why such a large number of farmers were still committing suicide all over the countryIJ How long should it continue. Those in power are only playing politics but not serving the people”, he said.

“To me country means people, irrespective of their community and caste”, he said.

He asked whether BJP has done one single thing during the last four years. “China has emerged an economic super power. If a country on the other side of the Himalayas can progress why not on this side of the Himalayas”, he asked.

“Knowing that if they vote the BJP or Congress the same old story will continue people are looking for an alternative

listing out the achievements of his government during last four years, KCR said that within a year the target of irrigating one crore acres of land will be completed putting an end to the sufferings of the people.

In yesterday’s press conference KCR he was a good friend of Prime Minister Narendra Modi but not an ally of the BJP. “without being part of the alliance we extended issue based support to the NDA”, he said but expressed disappointment with the functioning of the Centre.

KCR was infuriated with the Telangana state BJP leaders for raking up the issue of an alleged insult of the Prime Minister Modi. Strongly denied making any disrespectful comment on the Prime Minister, KCR condemned the state BJP leaders demand that he should be arrested.

“will anybody who criticizes the Prime Minister be sent to jail”, he asked.
