High time to stop politics on riots: Muslin clerics

Questioning the seriousness of the State Government to control communal strife, Muslim clerics have demanded immediate steps to stop the violence in the riot torn Muzaffarnagar and surrounding areas.

Mohtamim (Vice-Chancellor), Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani said this was not the right time to play politics as people are in danger in the trouble torn areas. In the present situation, all should display an example unity and brotherhood.

“The representatives of the seminary met Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party Chief and warned about worsening situation since past two week. If the State Government would have taken it seriously, such a massacre of people could have been averted,” he added.

On Sunday evening, Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav had telephonic conversation with Deoband’s Mohtamim and inquired about the situation in Deoband and Muzaffarnagar. Mohtamim demand CM to restore peace in the region earliest possible.

Shahi Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid and prominent Muslim Cleric, Mualana Syed Ahmad Bukhari alleged that the riots in Muzaffarnagar occurred due to laxity of district administration officials. He had been in contact with CM and Maulayam Singh Yadav and informing about the situation.

“When an IAS officer can be suspended for razing the wall then why the district administration of Muzaffarnagar was not removed. It was their laxity which led to chaos. The officers who can control the situation should be brought in,” he added.

Bukhari said the decision of taking Army’s help was taken late as now the riot has spread in the rural areas and he was receiving calls from some villages where people were brutally murdered.

Vice-President, All India Muslim Personal law Board and Shia Cleric, Maulana Dr Kalbe Sadiq said it was unfortunate that in 21st century people are fighting on petty issues. Now, the time has come that they should learn ‘Art of living Together’. “When the politics mixes with religion either under the table or over the table, the possibilities of such kind of violence become high. The Government should act immediately to restore peace in the region,” he added.
