In a much-talked-about selfie case of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Gujarat High Court judge on Tuesday recused himself from hearing.

Public prosecutor Mitesh Amin sought for the next date for the hearing of selfie cast. At that point of time Justice UR Udhavani said, “Not before me”. Amin sought the date as Advocate General Kamal Trivedi was not present to make submission on behalf of the Gujarat Government.

On September 28, Justice Udhvani admitted the application filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker Nishant Varma and later on withdrew the permission after the Advocate General sought more time and also grated time till October 6, 2015. Varma had filed revision application after the chief judicial magistrate at Ahmedabad rural court on May 11 junked his request for addition of charges against Modi. Varma had demanded to add more charges apart from Section 126 of the Representation of People Act as directed by the EC.

He wanted various provisions of IPC to be invoked against Modi. He had first approached the Ranip police and then moved a court and challenged the closure report. Varma’s plea was dismissed by the chief judicial magistrate SR Singh and he remarked that the metropolitan court had rightly upheld the closure report.
