Recognising the importance of investment in supporting human capital development, the G20 on Saturday committed to harness digital technologies to overcome digital divides for all learners and support educational institutions and teachers in keeping pace with emerging trends and technological advances.

India also proposed to launch a G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation, with an aim to help the countries of the global south.

The grouping also reaffirmed its commitment to zero tolerance for corruption and called for strengthening law enforcement-related international cooperation and information sharing for combating graft.  The G20 members, in its Leaders’ Declaration, supported promoting open, equitable and secure scientific collaboration and encourage mobility of students, scholars, researchers and scientists across research and higher education institutions.  “We are committed to inclusive, equitable, high-quality education and skills training for all, including for those in vulnerable situations.  We recognize the importance of investment in supporting human capital development. We recognise the importance of foundational learning (literacy, numeracy, and socioemotional skills) as the primary building block for education and employment,” the Declaration said.”We reiterate our commitment to harness digital technologies to overcome the digital divides for all learners and extend support to educational institutions and teachers to enable them to keep pace with emerging trends and technological advances including AI,” it added. The Declaration emphasised on expanding access to high-quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

“We reaffirm our commitment to promote open, equitable and secure scientific collaboration and encourage mobility of students, scholars, researchers, and scientists across research and higher education institutions,” it said.

The G20 also reaffirmed its support to enhance global efforts to seize, confiscate and return criminal proceeds to victims and states, in line with international obligations and domestic legal frameworks, including through support to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and operationalisation of the GlobE Network.

Further, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made suggestion the G20 satellite mission would be beneficial for all of humanity just as the data obtained from India’s successful Chandrayaan moon mission. With the same spirit, India is proposing the launch of the ‘G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation’, he said.

“The climate and weather data obtained from this will be shared with all the countries, especially the countries of the Global South. India invites all G-20 countries to join this initiative,” Modi said during a session at the G20 Leaders Summit.
