Gujarat BJP spokesman for the State Assembly election 2017 and Kshtriya leader IK Jadeja on Wednesday said that his party had decided to oppose release of Sanjay leela Bhanshali’s upcoming film Padmavati as the movie hurts sentiments of Kshtriya community. Jadeja also indicated that BJP had sent an application regarding the release of film to the Election Commission. According to him, in the Bollywood film the history related to Rani Padmavati was depicted wrongly. Already members of the Kshatriya and Rajput communities from 17 districts met with senior members of the State Government seeking ban on release of movie in the State. The movie, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh is set for a global release on December 1. During the shooting of the controversial Hindi movie members of Karni Sena in Rajasthan had disrupted the set in Jaipur. Even in Gujarat, a group of protestors had stormed in to a mall in Surat in mid-October and destroyed a Rangoli of actress Deepika Padukone’s Padmavati poster drawn by a young local artist. “Padmavati never met Alauddin Khilji. The movie wrongly portrays the history. The State is set to witness elections and in such an environment it is imperative that there is no controversy related to any community in the society and so we have approached EC for ban on the release of movie in Gujarat,” he said.
