The State level function for 68th Republic Day will be organised at Anand town in Central Gujarat better known as the ‘Milk Capital of India’ where headquarter of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Amul Dairy is situated.

Unlike other States in India, State level functions of Republic Day, Independence Day and Gujarat Day (May 1) are organised in district headquarters instead of the State capital. The new tradition was started in the year 2005 by then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who decided to organise Gujarat Day function at Surat in that year.

This year, the State Government decided to organise Republic Day function at Anand, the district headquarter of Kheda district. To mark the Republic Day celebration, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani dedicated over Rs100 crore public works in Kheda district on Wednesday.

On the eve of Republic Day, Gujarat Chief Minister addressed farmers’ rally at Karamsad village, the birthplace of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel situated around 7 km from Anand. later on Rupani attended Gujarat Governor OP Kohli’s ‘At Home’ program at police parade ground. All the Government buildings, important monuments in Anand and Karamsad have been decorated with colourful lights which were renovated and painted recently in wake of the State level function.
