Announcing medical college for tribal students in the State, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday claimed that Congress during his six decades rule had not done anything for the tribal communities.

Speaking at a rally at Unai in South Gujarat after flagging off 10-day long tribal development march, Rupani said that BJP-ruled Government in the State was committed for development of all including tribal people. He said that besides a medical college, a dedicated university for tribal too was the initiative of BJP Government.

Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani under whose leadership the march would progressed towards Ambaji in North Gujarat, said that the Gujarat Government’s sensitive decision to implement the rule 2017 under PESA Act (Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act) would be game changer for the welfare of tribal people. The rule under PESA empowers the tribal people living in forest areas to various privileges including minor forest produces and minor minerals. The income thus generated could be used for the development of the region.

“The march is not aimed at winning votes (of tribals) but it would be proved as heart winning. BJP has never done politics of vote bank. It is not in the culture of party,” said Vaghani while blaming opposition Congress party for doing vote bank politics.

Gujarat’s Forest Minister Ganapat Vasava who is from tribal community said that Gujarat’s tribal people wouldn’t pardon Congress for not creating infrastructure in tribal areas in sixty years of its rule. He hailed PASA Act saying that it would bring golden era for the tribal community in the State.

The Tribal Development March initiated from February 7 would be completed on February 18 at North Gujarat pilgrimage Ambaji. In the closing ceremony of the march BJP’s national president Amit Shah will address a big rally. During the 10 day long march, BJP workers under the leadership of Vaghani would complete 1450 km and address 26 public meetings on the way.
