Governments chosen by ballot, not bullets: Naqvi

Pioneer News Service

Senior BJP leader and former Union Cabinet Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday said that in India, the world’s largest democracy, governments are chosen and changed by the “power of ballot”, and not by the “threat of bullets”.

While talking to reporters, Naqvi took a dig at the regime change craze and conspiracy of some political parties and individuals, saying that, including the “period of barbarity” during the 1977 Emergency and after that, when 18 general elections and hundreds of Assembly, Panchayat and local body elections held in the country, the people made “ballot” as their weapon of mandate, not bullets. Even today, this “people’s mandate through elections” is the passion and spirit of our vibrant democracy and it’s still strong and alive.

Naqvi said that the “national and international investors and sponsors” of the ongoing anarchy, arrogance and chaos for regime change will be disappointed. The “lynching lobby” of the people’s mandate, which is trying to put a gun to the head of democracy, will be wiped out.
