Terrorists and shadowy elements use Goa as a location to recess and cool off, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the State legislative Assembly.
“Many times Goa is being used as a resting place by unwanted elements, maybe by terrorists,” Parrikar said even as he warned that several hotels and guest houses were allowing people to stay without verifying their identity.
“For Indian citizens, a hotel is supposed to keep the identity documents, but I cannot expect hotel to verify identity unless there is suspicion,” Parrikar said. “If the House agrees, we will start a series of ads to create awareness about this. But after that if the hotels do not record every guest who stays there, we will take action,” he further said.
He said that the State was working out a means by which all hotels can upload their guest information that would be accessible by the police in real time.
