The DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) test of deaf and mute girl Geeta has not matched with Janardan Mahato and his family whom she had earlier acknowledged as her possible parents. “We had done DNA test of Geeta upon her arrival from Pakistan. The Mahato family had come forward and seeing their pictures Geeta had felt perhaps they are her parents. Their DNA test was also conducted. The DNA test was negative,” said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup. Geeta has been conveyed of the DNA test report. The report, prepared by AIIMS, has also been sent to the Mahato family. Geeta had initially identified the Mahato family as hers, but she failed to recognise anyone from the family upon arrival in New Delhi last month.

Swarup added that the Government will continue searching for her parents. Geeta has been sent some more photographs of the families that have come forward to stake claim on her. “She has been sent more pictures of people claiming to be her parents. Geeta is going through the pictures but she has not said that they may be her parents,” said Swarup.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will travel to Indore to meet Geeta on November 23. “Geeta is staying in a rehabilitation centre for deaf and dumb people in Indore and is being given skill development training there,” Swarup added.
