Gaya road rage: Rocky convicted

PNS

Rocky Yadav, the trigger-happy son of a politician couple in Gaya was convicted by a lower court for the murder of a teenaged boy Aditya Sachdeva.

Additional District and Session Judge-1 of Gaya Sachchidanand Singh passed this order on Thursday and scheduled next hearing to pronounce quantum of punishment on September 6. Two other accused were also held guilty for murder while Rocky’s father Bindi Yadav was also held guilty for harbouring in the crime. The two other accused were Rajesh Kumar, the bodyguard of his lawmaker mother and Teni Yadav, a domestic help.

Aditya, son of a Gaya trader Shyam Sachdeva, was shot dead by Rocky in a road rage incident. The teenaged boy, along with four other friends, was driving from Bodh Gaya to Gaya when he overtook the SUV of Rocky. An enraged son of Bindi and Manorma Devi, the suspended MlC of JD(U), whipped out his gun and fired at the car and bullet hit Aditya who died on way to hospital on May 7, 2016.

The sensational murder had caused political upheaval in Bihar as murder accused belonged to a family which was close to JD(U) as well as RJD, as both were then allies. Rocky and his father Bindi Yadav went underground and had been arrested a fortnight later while liquor bottles were found during search of the house of Manorma Devi. The JD(U) had suspended her.

Rocky had been granted bail by then Chief Justice of Patna high court Iqbal Ahmad Ansari but it was cancelled by the Supreme Court when the State Government moved the apex court against this order. The Supreme Court had fixed a deadline of September 5 for the judgement.

The 18-month long trial saw many turns and six key witnesses including four friends of Aditya, a Class XII student who were traveling with him when the incident took place turned hostile. They even retracted from their earlier statement recorded before a first class judicial magistrate. Not only the public prosecutor but even the trial court was changed midway. Rocky’s father hired the services of lawyers from Delhi to fight the case.

The slain boy’s parents Shyam and Chanda Sachdeva said they have full faith in the judiciary. They thanked media for national projection of the incident and the Government move to approach the apex court. “We wish the killer is hanged,” they said.

Yadav’s lawyers said after the punishment they would move to high court against this order.
