Delhi Police on Tuesday said that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has submitted the DNA reports of the Mundka fire victims to the police team investigating the incident.
According to Sameer Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Outer district, the FSL teams have matched several samples with the DNA of the family members of the missing persons.
Some reports were handed over on Monday and some more are likely to be submitted on Tuesday.
“A total of 27 dead bodies were preserved at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and blood samples of their family members were sent to FSL for DNA profiling and matching. In the early stage of the case, eight dead bodies were handed-over to their family members,” said the DCP.
“Now, out of those handed-over eight bodies, the DNA profile of seven has been matched with their family members. While the DNA profile of one female body identified as Ranju Devi doesn’t match with her son. So, blood samples of parents of the said dead body are being taken for DNA matching,” said the DCP.
“Further, the FSL authorities handed over DNA profiles of three unknown dead bodies on Tuesday evening. In addition to this, the FSL authorities have been requested to take fresh blood samples of accused Harish Goyal and Varun Goyal for matching with the dead body of Amar Nath Goyal,” said the DCP.
A massive fire broke out in a four-storey building in outer Delhi's Mundka, leaving 27 people dead.
“We have formed multiple teams for the DNA examination.... Now that we have received the samples, we are proceeding with the entire process of DNA profiling. Since it is a complex process, it takes time," the FSL official had said, adding that DNA sampling generally takes about one to two weeks, depending also on the condition of the samples.
