French Ambassador to India Francois Richier said here he was “saddened” by Uttar Pradesh Minister Azam Khan’s remark that the Paris terror attack could have been a “reaction” to the “killing of innocents” in Arab countries by “superpowers” including the US.
A senior Samjawadi Party leader, Khan had condemned the terrorist attacks in Paris but simultaneously raked up the issue of action by the US and Russia in Arab countries, saying “killing of innocents” anywhere is “not justified.”
Meanwhile, the French ambassador said France will go ahead with the crucial climate change summit in Paris “as planned” with improved security measures. “On November 30, we are expecting to welcome the Conference of Parties (CoP21) which will be kicked off by a summit meeting where most of the world leaders will be present, including the Prime Minister of India. We have not cancelled the conference,” he said. Modi will visit Paris on November 30 to take part in the inaugural session of the UN climate change summit along with 80 Heads of States where they will aim to achieve a global climate pact. US President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping will be among the leaders who will attend the inaugural session.
