In yet another shocking incident of abominable cruelty towards small kids in Kerala, a four-year-old girl was killed and buried by her mother, her lover and his friend in Chottanikkara near Kochi.
The incident took place within two weeks of a mother slitting the throats of her new-born twins in Idukki district and a week after a man killing his two little nephews in Pathanamthitta.
The girl’s mother Rani and her lover Ranjith, an earth-mover operator, were arrested along with his friend Basil by the police on Wednesday for the brutal crime committed on Tuesday night. The girl, Aksa, was a kindergarten student at Karingachira near Chottanikkara. Ranjith admitted to the police that he had killed the child with her mother’s help.
Ranjith killed Aksa after he felt that she would be an impediment for his plan to live with Rani, who had been living in Karingachira in a rented house after divorce from her former husband. The girl was killed on Tuesday night and the body was kept on the roof of Rani’s rented house till midnight, according to police sources.
Ranjith took the body of the girl after midnight to a deserted plot at Arakkunnu near Karingachira and buried it in a deep pit he dug with the help of friend Basil. local residents said that Ranjith seemed to have committed the crime with prior planning as the girl’s body was buried at a place over which a road was to be constructed soon.
It was Rani herself who had approached the police on Wednesday morning complaining that her daughter had been missing. However, the police grew suspicious and the subsequent questioning led to her admission that the girl had been killed and buried.
In another incident, a young man threw down a six-year-old boy from the first floor of the gynecology wing at the Medical College Hospital in Kottayam. The boy Sujith, who had been at the hospital to see his new-born brother, was playing on the verandah of the hospital when the young man, Jobi from Kolenchery, caught hold of him and threw him down from the building.
Jobi, who was in no way related to Sujith, was said to have reached the hospital to see his sister-in-law who had been admitted there. It is said that he was suffering from mental disorder. Sujith, who suffered injuries in the chest and an arm, was admitted to hospital.
