After the huge media outrage over the New Year eve mass molestation and another incident of a young woman being sexually harassed by two scooter-borne predators, Bengaluru police have arrested four men on Thursday.

According to police the four men arrested were involved in the molestation of the woman who was sexually harassed and robbed in the early hours of January 1. The video grab of these perpetrators attacking a woman at Kammanahalli area in Bengaluru  made police file an  FIR and act on the lead they got in the video.

In Press conference the newly-appointed Bengaluru Police Commissioner Praveen Sood has said they have arrested four persons based on the video evidence and gave a stern warning to the perpetrators. He said that four of the 6 men accused of stalking and molesting a woman in Kammanahalli area on New Year have been arrested.

He said  “A group of six people planned the attack. The main accused Aiyappa is an ITI student and also works as a delivery boy. He did not have any connection with the victim other than that they stayed close by. Two other accomplices have also been identified, and will be arrested soon.” The three other men arrested include a driver, helper, a delivery boy.

According to police the accused were stalking the victim for days, and on New Year, after the party, they planned to follow her and molest her.

Thanking a resident of the area for coming forward with video evidence regarding the case, Sood said that a suo moto case was registered on January 3, as he did not find the need to talk to the victim.

“What we saw in the video convinced us beyond all doubt that this was a heinous crime and we did not waste time to look for the victim or contact her. We immediately constituted a team and they were working continuously for 48 hours,” he said.

Meanwhile after drawing flak for his remark on the Bengaluru molestation incident, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that he has been quoted "out of context". Addressing a Press Conference, he said incident's like the one that took place on New Year must not bring bad name to Bengaluru.

"Bengaluru has always been peaceful for women. My quote about the New Year's Eve molestation incident has been interpreted out of context.

“I haven't said Bengaluru incident is expected. My reference was that these kinds of New Year celebration go on," he said.

The Home Minister also said  Government  would  ensure that no untoward incident takes place in future.

“We will increase CCTV installation, will install 5000 CCTVs. We will also increase number of Dial 100 24/7 helplines from 15 to 100. We have 15 Dial 100 lines. Now, we'll increase up to 100,” he said.
