'Final procurement procedure after report'

PNS

With the stress on ‘Make in India’ policy to give a boost to the Indian defence industry, a high-level panel mandated to recommend changes in procuring weapons and equipment will submit its report by this month-end. Based on the report, the Defence Ministry will then finalise the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP), Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said here on Thursday.

The committee gave the draft report to the Minister on Thursday and will submit the final report by month-end, he said. The 10-member committee has representatives from the Ministry as well as the industry.  There are around 12 areas which the committee will go through, some of which pertain to exports, level playing field, agents and black listing policy.  The DPP was first drafted in the year 1992 and reviewed in 2002. It was then revised in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2013

Meanwhile, Navy chief Admiral RK Dhowan urged the Indian private sector to tap into opportunities in the naval defence sector as the force has prepared a 15-year indigenisation plan that will soon be shared with India Inc.

Addressing a two-day seminar jointly organised by the Navy and Confederation of Indian Industries(CII) here, Dhowan said on Thursday the Navy has undertaken a “critical appreciation” of indigenisation in the warships and has found that there is a “huge scope.”
