Female activist roughed up for trying to sterilise stray dogs

A female activist was allegedly thrashed and beaten up by the people of a locality when she visited the place for sterilising and vaccinating the stray dogs in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area.  A case has been registered and the investigation has started, said a police official. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when Ayesha Christiana, who runs a NGO, went to vaccinate the dogs in Signature View Apartments,  Mukherjee Nagar.

“I had all the necessary permissions from the civic agency (North Delhi Municipal Corporation). But the residents, including the president of the society, refused to let me enter the building and asked for more documents from the authority,” she said, adding that, “since my house is located just in front of the society I went back to get the papers. While returning, I saw a PCR parked near my home, so I asked the police officials for help and they joined me,” she said.

“As I reached the building, around 10 to 15 people blocked my way but I somehow managed to pick up one of the dog from the society,” she said. “However, despite the officials accompanying me, suddenly some of the residents, including women, started thrashing me,” she added.

A few minutes later, some of the officials, standing on the spot, shoved her into the gypsy and brought her to police station, where she lodged a complaint.  Police, however, said that they have filed an FIR and are verifying the allegations from both the sides.
