Fadnavis draws flak over PM-led panel proposal

Under flak from the Opposition Congress, NCP and its ally Shiv Sena for mooting a proposal to set up a Prime Minister-headed committee for Mumbai’s development, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis exhorts political parties to refrain from politicising the developmental issues relating to the country’s commercial capital.

Fadnavis, who made the suggestion during a meeting in New Delhi that a high-level committee be set up to turn Mumbai into a global commercial hub, found himself on the defensive, as the Shiv Sen joined the Congress and NCP in targetting him for coming out with a questionable proposal.

Talking to the media in Nagpur, during the ongoing Winter Session of Maharashtra, Fadnavis said: “It is a political controversy, raked up by certain people. When it comes to Mumbai’s development, we should not indulge in politics. Those who are politicising the issue are playing with the development of Mumbai”.

Fadnavis clarified that the objective behind his mooting a PM-headed high panel was to ensure expeditious approvals by the various Union departments for development proposals involving Mumbai.

“let us face it. Whenever we start a new project, we need to send the proposal first to Delhi whether it is CRZ, environment or eco-sensitivity. We have seen many proposals lying with the Centre for as long as 30 years, awaiting an approval, and that is why I requested Modiji,” he added.
