Death toll in the recent spate of encephalitis rose to 77 when three more children falling prey to the disease in the past 24 hours. Officials say all the deaths are reported from BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur.
Sources on Sunday said that of the three fresh deaths, one each were from Basti and Gorakhpur while one was from adjoining Bihar. “All the dead were children in the age group of 5 to 15 years,” the official told The Pioneer.
Since January last, 274 children suffering from encephalitis were admitted to Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur of which 77 died, he said and added that two fresh children suffering from the disease were admitted to the medical college on Saturday while 15 were getting treated at the medical college and district hospital.
