initiative: After identifying, analysing and preparing a thana-wise list of hotspots regarding women harassment, the women police officials have created WhatsApp groups with principals of girls’ schools and colleges to compile information and taking corrective measures accordingly. Women cops in an effort to curb crimes in and around educational institutions, have also started providing complaint boxes in schools across the city.

The idea is to build a rapport between police and students so that they can make complaints about sexual harassment at home or school. Women cops believe this initiative will ensure safety of students in schools and public places. Often, children do not take their complaints to authorities because they are afraid of facing them. Students can drop their complaints in the box with their name, address, place where the abuse took place. A list of educational institutions has been made to install complaint boxes.

DCP (Headquarters) Shraddha Narendra Pandey said: “Cops have prepared the list of hotspots after receiving complaints and chalked out a strategy to deploy forces in plain clothes at identified pockets and hotspots. Apart from deploying police forces, women cops in plain clothes are also visiting hotspots and compiling inputs.

Under the fresh strategy, cops, especially women policemen, posted at all police units have been sensitised.”

“We will seek help of counsellors and parents of kids in sensitive cases,” said a senior cop. This is the first time when such measures have been initiated by Prayargaj police for the safety and security of women.
