HYDERABAD: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday launched coordinated search operations targeting properties linked to senior IPS officer P. Sitarama Anjaneyulu and several private entities in connection with a money laundering probe into the alleged manipulation of answer scripts in Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) examinations.

Investigators covered seven distinct sites across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Telangana, as well as Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. The federal action follows proceedings initiated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), originating from a 2025 First Information Report registered by the Andhra Pradesh Police.

The state police inquiry focused on recruitments conducted between 2018 and 2021 for 169 Group-I posts. State authorities had alleged substantial improprieties during the physical reassessment of answer scripts for the Group-I Main Examination, during which an estimated Rs 1.14 crore was paid to an external firm.

Anjaneyulu, an officer from the 1992 IPS batch who served as the state's intelligence chief in the Director General of Police rank under the previous Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy administration, functioned as the Commission's Secretary when the evaluation was outsourced to Camsign Media.

He was previously arrested by local police in connection with the recruitment case. In 2025, the senior officer was also detained by the state Crime Investigation Department in a separate matter involving the alleged harassment and wrongful custody of a Mumbai-based film actor.

Besides Anjaneyulu’s residence, search teams visited premises tied to P. Madhusudhana Rao, managing director of Camsign Media, along with Aavasa Resort Haailand in Chinakakani village in Guntur district, where the exam papers were stored and evaluated.

Officials also inspected premises linked to TruGrader Services, an arm of Stone Media Advisory Services Private Limited that managed the preliminary computer-based assessment, its managing director Akella Peri Srinivasa Rao, and Mahamkali Raghuram, who was involved in executing the evaluation process.
