EC warns Modi to be careful in future

PNS

The Election Commission on Thursday expressed strong displeasure against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for his khooni panja remark and asked him to be more careful in his future public discourses.

Asking Modi to stand by his commitment to adhere to all regulations, directions and Model Code of EC, the Commission expressed its “disapprobation” in the matter and expected him to be more careful in his future speeches.

Modi had in his election rally speech in Chhattisgarh on November 7 made comments such as khooni panja and zalim haath. In his reply to the EC notice, Modi denied that his comment was an attack on the policies and programmes of Congress and was used “colloquially” referring to the symbol ‘hand’ of the INC.

The Commission reminded Modi that even while criticising policies, programmes of political parties “the expressions and utterances, even when used colloquially, have to be couched in such terms that the same conform to dignity, decorum, and public morality.”
