With the Election Commission taking strong action against partisan officers, transferring about three dozen police officers and BDOs in the past couple of days, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday attacked the Commission once again, saying it was dancing to the tunes of the Congress top leadership.
The Chief Minister who was addressing an election rally at Sabang in West Midnapore said she knew who all were pulling the strings from behind, making the Commission to act arbitrarily. “Though they are transferring our officers, they can never bring their own officers from Delhi,” Banerjee told the rally, adding “even the new officers are our own men which these people should keep in mind.”
Following complaints, the Commission has in the past 48 hours transferred a number of officers including BDOs, station house officers and circle inspectors which apparently infuriated the Chief Minister who earlier this month had a run in with the Commission over transfer of half a dozen SPs and DMs.
Banerjee who has already been under pressure following reports of her party's alleged connections with the jailed ponzy fund kingpin Sudipto Sen alleged plans were being hatched behind the closed doors at Congress leader Ahmed Patel's house before being implemented in Bengal.
“let them make their schemes and issue transfer orders, but nothing will happen in the elections,” Banerjee said leading the Opposition to wonder as to “why she is so much scared about the transfers if her party and the Government has no intention to rig the polls,” BJP leader Tathagato Roy asked.
