In a shocking incident, an earthworm was found in the mid-day meal (MDM) of a school in the city on Monday. The meal was abandoned.
The incident happened in Dhameya Tank Upper Primary School of Ward number-13 under the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC). While the meal was served, a Class V girl K Kalpana spotted a dead earthworm in dal served to her. The school committee immediately stopped the serving meal.
District Inspector of Schools Pabitra Mohan Sahu, corporator M Tejeswar Swami and Brahmapur Sub-Collector Bijay Kumar Das rushed to the school. The sample of the dal and rice served by the Naandi Foundation was taken for test.
It may be noted that the centralised kitchen of Naandi Foundation provides mid-day meal to schools in the BMC area as well as Hinjli and Chatrapur blocks. After the schools in Sheragarh block complained against the foundation for supplying low grade food, the Ganjam Collector had directed it to stop sending cooked food to the schools in the block.
