Double whammy for Congress in Gujarat

At every level, the Gujarat BJP is managing to hit the Congress with a definite strategy to score maximum seats in the upcoming lok Sabha elections.

The exercise was initiated during the Assembly elections in last December with Congress stalwart and former deputy Chief Minister Narhari Amin’s entry into the BJP. The latest came from Central Gujarat in Dahod, believed to be a Congress bastion, where local Congress leaders joined the BJP. It was a double whammy for the Gujarat Congress on Saturday. leader of Opposition in Dahod district panchayat Kanaiyalal Kishori and two other Congress members Shanker Baria and Nayanaben Hathalia joined the BJP. Secondly, in the Dahod Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), the BJP emerged victorious that too with the help of Kishori.

“Kishori’s father Bachubhai was a Congress MlA. The family is having sway over 100 booths in Dahod lok Sabha constituency. Apart from Kishori, a few other important Congress leaders are also likely to join the BJP in near future,” said Sudhir lalpurwala, president of Dahod district BJP unit.

Of the 26 lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat, the BJP and the Congress are occupying 16 and 10 seats respectively. With Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s increasing stature on national level, responsibility is mounting on the State BJP leadership to convert the Congress occupied seats in favour of the BJP. Dahod is one of the 10 lok Sabha seats where the Congress is strong. Cong MlA’s son faces arrest

Jamnagar Sessions Court issued arrest warrant against 18 accused including local Congress MlA Raghavji Patel’s son Jayendra in the imported coal scam. Jamnagar Police registered complaint against Jayendra and others in the scam last month. Jayendra was called to police station and questioned too, but was not arrested. Jayendra later filed anticipatory bail plea which was rejected by the court.
