The DMK on Tuesday lambasted Markandey Katju, former Judge of the Supreme Court, for making ‘wild and baseless allegations’ that a major political party from Tamil Nadu pressurised the UPA for getting extension for a tainted Judge of the Madras High Court in 2005. TKS Elangovan, party spokesman, told reporters here on Tuesday that the DMK chief would take appropriate action after consultations with senior party members.
“We wanted to ignore his wild and baseless allegations. He neither named the party nor the judge,” said Elangovan. He also charged that ‘vested interests’ were behind the allegations made by Katju. Though Katju has been silent about the name of the party from Tamil Nadu, the DMK has reacted strongly to the allegation which has given a new twist to the episode.
Though Katju has been silent about the name of the party from Tamil Nadu which is reported to have exerted pressure on the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh which ended up in three chief justices of the Supreme Court for making improper compromises in altering IB reports against the tainted judge, the fact that DMK has reacted strongly to the allegation has given a new twist to the episode.
