With the chit-fund crisis threatening to produce irreversible political consequence for the State Government, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday embarked on a damage-control exercise announcing the setting up of a high-powered commission to investigate the scam.
“We are setting up a high-powered commission headed by retired Justice Shyamal Sen under the Commissions of Investigation Act to investigate into the scam,” Banerjee said, adding the team will also include four other members, including a retired IPS officer.
Apart from this a parallel probe would be conducted by the Director General of Police aided by the CID, she said even as a public interest litigation was filed in the Calcutta High Court on Monday praying for a CBI probe. PNS
