Didi fires GDP, GST salvo at Centre

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again attacked the Centre for its “faulty” fiscal policies on Friday.

Passing judgments on the Goods and Services Tax Bill in its present form and the Demonetisation that had triggered a fall in the GDP causing “massive loss of jobs,” Mamata wondered “what the masters of the faulty policy will say now.”

Asserting that Bengal did not support GST in its current form she said State Finance Minister Amit Mitra had already written to the Centre about this. “We are against GST in its current form where the unorganised sector has not been taken care of. Our Finance Minister has already written to the Centre regarding the issue,” she told while addressing an administrative meeting in South 24 Parganas.

Mamata’s statement came in the backdrop of Kolkata bagging the third position in terms of registration for GST enrollment after Ahmedabad and Mysore with almost 91 per cent of the service tax assesses having enrolled for the transition to the GST network.

Mamata also launched an  attack on the Centre citing a slip in the GDP index that came to around 6.1 percent. The Bengal Chief Minister, whose partymen had reportedly lost many crores in the wake of demonetisation, said “Right at the time demonetisation was announced, I had voiced my concern that the country would have to face severe loss of jobs.”
