Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said that the previous Congress-led DF Government had failed to tackle the water crisis in the State in a planned manner.

Interacting with farmers and local people after launching the river rejuvenation work of lambota river in the drought-affected Marathwada, Fadnavis said: "If we are reeling under water crisis, it is because of the mistakes committed by our predecessors. The previous Government did not address the water crisis in a planned manner. Today, one Minister is visiting one taluka each and these visits are meant to review the progress of our various drought mitigation schemes".

Giving the details of various steps taken by his government to tackle drought situation in various parts of the State, Fadnavis made it a point to compliment the common people, most of them poor, from the State for having contributed to the tune of `350 crore to implement the 'Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan,' a Government-sponsored integrated water conservation and management scheme that seeks to make Maharashtra free of drought in five years.

"If we are able to ensure regular water supply and power to the farmers, not they would not only survive, but would empower others as well," the Chief Minister said.
